REFLECTIONS

UNEXPECTED

CHALLENGES

We did not expect that our classmates would take so long to submit the pre and post surveys.

Some of them submitted the Pre-survey after they attended their first session. This would result in the data collected to be inaccurate and hence unreliable.

To avoid these challenges, we will give them more reminders or give them the surveys at a much earlier date. Setting a deadline will also be effective.

Comparing Data

When comparing the Pre and Post survey results for Quantitative data, it seems that the participants'  personal growth has increased. Hence, we can say that service-learning has positively impacted on their personal growth.

Our Qualitative data also shows an increase in personal growth in the students. Most of them answered that they felt more confident in conducting service-learning projects in the future.

Which is better? Quantitative Data or Qualitative Data?

Both quantitative and qualitative data are equally important. They both represent the sample population as they provide different perspectives. Quantitative data provides us with important facts like research data, demographics and differences between groups. On the other hand, Qualitative data gives us a sense of the participants' understanding or their perspective. Hence, we cannot say if one type of data is better than the other. They both complememt each other to give the complete picture of the facts collected and the justification behind it.
